• notes from ‘first swap’
Group mural - community art?  Social sculpture
How to measure a group gathering, how do we critique social projects?  Martha Rosler > Flea Market > Clothes > Process of discovery > Size is an issue > Size = a reflection of participant
    Each ‘thing’ has a story/curiosity
Discomfort with ‘others looking through your stuff’
Pile is important > Reject pile - should it travel to next swap/meet? > It is always an art project? > Easy to start compared to an ‘art’ event > using a common space > openness of simply using carpet > related to familiarity of humans sharing >
    Goal?
Bring people together in the physical world
Giant Pile of Clothes = clothes are objects that have concept of memory & experience > swap = sharing in someone else’s memory?
Can we ask people to give stories?  Written or oral? > Give memories not just clothing to others > Ask participants to write stories of what they are leaving behind
Act of SHARING - subversive - environmental - sharing - shortage of $$
What is the effect of a clothes swap?  Thrill of getting something for nothing? Choices > Playing with identity > Playing dress up > Play.
